Gutsy Storage King notch up another win

storageking-small.jpg After missing seven players for last weeks win over Te Awamutu, the Storage King girls were happy to have a full squad for this weeks clash against Suburbs. Although the pre-game warm-up and team talks were positive and enthusiastic, the students proceeded to play one of their worst halves of hockey this season. With a revamped and aggressive Suburbs side putting them under pressure, the Uni girls lost their structure and seemed to be playing with almost zero confidence. Subsequently ‘Burbs went into the break up 1-0 after a nice finish towards the end of the half.

However, after inspirational speeches from the coaching staff and Cat “Captain Fantastic” Bryan, Storage King returned to the field with a glint in their eye and a determination to, in the words of one player, “make Suburbs their bitch”. It was seemingly a completely different side that played that half. The passing was accurate, the ball movement swift, and the tackling dominant. The strikers and inners were repeatedly making scything attacks through the Suburbs defence, eventually culminating in a PC being awarded, which was neatly converted by Hannah “I play better when I’m hungover” Weir. The deficit dispatched, Varsity continued to dominate, converting some scrappy chances and playing much of the game in the opposition half. Up 3-1 with five minutes to go, the icing on the cake came with the conversion of a frankly amazing PC move, which left the Suburbs defenders dumbfounded with awe.

So a good win for Storage King (in the end), in which they showed some real guts and determination, both of which they will need in spades for next weeks grudge match against Old Girls (grrrr). The newly created Player of the Day award or “Best Dominatrix” went to Gabby Gardiner, who once again produced a classy and of course dominating performance.

Storage King vs Te Awamutu

storageking-small.jpg Well another tough match against T.A! The girls started out with good attitudes but were caught flat-footed in the early minutes of the game resulting in a quick goal from T.A. The shake up seemed to wake us all up and there was some nice passing through the midfield but unfortunately not enough linking to the strikers and a few lost opportunities in the circle. In the second half our marking was a bit loose and we soon found ourselves another goal down but nevertheless there was some gutsy play, especially in defense. Te Awamutu had the better composure and team work and deserved the final 3-0 win. Looking forward to the next game!
