Gutsy Storage King notch up another win
After missing seven players for last weeks win over Te Awamutu, the Storage King girls were happy to have a full squad for this weeks clash against Suburbs. Although the pre-game warm-up and team talks were positive and enthusiastic, the students proceeded to play one of their worst halves of hockey this season. With a revamped and aggressive Suburbs side putting them under pressure, the Uni girls lost their structure and seemed to be playing with almost zero confidence. Subsequently ‘Burbs went into the break up 1-0 after a nice finish towards the end of the half.
However, after inspirational speeches from the coaching staff and Cat “Captain Fantastic” Bryan, Storage King returned to the field with a glint in their eye and a determination to, in the words of one player, “make Suburbs their bitch”. It was seemingly a completely different side that played that half. The passing was accurate, the ball movement swift, and the tackling dominant. The strikers and inners were repeatedly making scything attacks through the Suburbs defence, eventually culminating in a PC being awarded, which was neatly converted by Hannah “I play better when I’m hungover” Weir. The deficit dispatched, Varsity continued to dominate, converting some scrappy chances and playing much of the game in the opposition half. Up 3-1 with five minutes to go, the icing on the cake came with the conversion of a frankly amazing PC move, which left the Suburbs defenders dumbfounded with awe.
So a good win for Storage King (in the end), in which they showed some real guts and determination, both of which they will need in spades for next weeks grudge match against Old Girls (grrrr). The newly created Player of the Day award or “Best Dominatrix” went to Gabby Gardiner, who once again produced a classy and of course dominating performance.

Storage King vs Te Awamutu
Well another tough match against T.A! The girls started out with good attitudes but were caught flat-footed in the early minutes of the game resulting in a quick goal from T.A. The shake up seemed to wake us all up and there was some nice passing through the midfield but unfortunately not enough linking to the strikers and a few lost opportunities in the circle. In the second half our marking was a bit loose and we soon found ourselves another goal down but nevertheless there was some gutsy play, especially in defense. Te Awamutu had the better composure and team work and deserved the final 3-0 win. Looking forward to the next game!

Storage King win in the wet
Storage King University battled Suburbs through torrential rain and short bursts of glorious sunshine for a hard fought win. Suburbs were a much more well rounded team than they were the last time they went up against Storage King, and it showed.
The opening plays were some fantastic fast passing hockey with University making early breaks down the right wing, but it soon reached a point where the turf was too wet to play at speed, which was more to the liking of the opposition.
It was physically tough on the players with many being hit by aerial balls as they tried to escape the puddling turf. Nicola made an amazing recovery after being drilled at close range in the ankle, deciding that “it was only shock” and not an injury at all. Kovo was welcomed back to hockey with a chip shot between her shoulder blades, Brittany was left a little dazed after a 1 on 1 with the keeper and there were liberal applications of ice to the team at half time.
The team stuck at it, and despite having only the bare 11 (at times 10 due to injury!) continued to apply pressure and score goals. A big thanks to Katelyn and Kristi who played despite having just come off another tough match!
Final score: 2-0 win.

Storage King vs Te Awamutu Blue
We went out strong and determined against the top Te Awamutu team, and the game began well, although it was certain from the beginning that this would be a close game. We battled to keep the ball at the other end; however it wasn’t long before Te Awamutu found their way into our circle. Star goalie Caroline made many great saves, and the defence put in a great job, however couldn’t quite save the first goal against them scored from a great shot in a penalty corner. Though behind, the girls didn’t let morale drop, and continued to battle on. Some great breakaways from our forwards saw good shots on goal: well done to the Te Awamutu goalie for her awesome effort keeping them out! Intensity was high, and we played well but Te Awamutu was the better team on the day.
Final score: 3-0
